Warsaw is the place of international artistic events, i.a. Fryderyk Chopin Piano Contest which takes place every 5 years, annual International Festival of Contemporary Music "Warsaw Autumn", Warsaw Theatre Meetings.

Warsaw is also the biggest theatre centre with 28 dramatic theatres (the most important: the National Theatre, the Polish Theatre, the Ateneum Theatre) and four Puppet Theatres. The centres of music life are: the National Philharmonic, the Grand Theatre, the Warsaw Chamber Opera and the National Operetta.

It is also possible to practise sports in Warsaw because of plenty of stadiums, tennis courts, sports halls, swimming pools, artificial ice rinks (Torwar, Stegny - speed skating track) and many active sports clubs. The Horse Race Track Służewiec and the Warsaw Flying Club in Bemowo district are also great showplaces.

The recreation site is represented by the area of the Zegrzyński Reservoir - the artificial reservoir with beaches and marinas along its coastline.

The centre of the city and its periphery are full of modern shopping centres. The example is so called "Eastern Wall" at Marszałkowska street - an architectural complex consisting of: 4 department stores, PKO rotunda, three 24-storey skyscrapers, shops, cafes, night clubs. At the back of the department stores there is a walkway with beautiful undercuts, green belts, small interiors and cafes terraces.

Warsaw means also high-class restaurants, stylish rooms, fabulous cafes renowned for the visits of famous people from around the world - these are located mainly on the Old Town's Square. A lot of cafes gardens are full of people all day round, especially in summer. There is also a great choice of nightclubs, pubs and discos depending on the kind of music and atmosphere one prefers.
